A Spooky Halloween-LEVEL 1

A Spooky Halloween blends  some ideas from the legend of Jack O’lantern  and  the characteristics of nowadays’  Halloween celebration.  It is a play for children aged between 6-9 years old.

Synopsis:

The play revolves around the story of two siblings who are looking for some adventures for the Halloween night. They meet Jack the scarecrow who has casted a spell on some Halloween characters. These characters are trapped behind several doors. The children will have to knock every single door in order to solve riddles that the characters will tell them. The siblings will discover different objects that allow them solve the riddles and free the house from being haunted.  Finally they discover the last clue for enjoying a happy Halloween every year. 



Characters:

Jack the scarecrow, John, Jane, a group of several witches,a group of different skeletons, a group of several monsters and a group of different characters that accompanied the wizard (owls, cats, snakes, etc)

Characters objectives:

Jack the scarecrow: naughty character who wants to spoil John and Jane’s Halloween night forever.

John: a shy boy who tries to have adventure although the fear will sometimes seize him

Jane: a brave girl with an endless feeling of looking for adventures. A helpful character

A group of several witches: they are individuals who have the same problem and a riddle to express.

A group of several monsters: they are individuals who have the same problem and a riddle to express.

A group of different characters that accompanied the wizard (owls, cats, snakes, etc): they are individuals who have the same problem and a riddle to express.

A group of different skeletons: they are individuals who have the same problem and a riddle to express.

Organization

The class can be divided into four groups representing the four types of Halloween characters and some students can act out as Jack, John and Jane. However these three characters can rotate along the different students of the class. 

Scene 1

Scene is set in the siblings’ house garden. Both siblings are decorating the garden as every year for the Halloween night.  Jack the scarecrow comes alive. He is the guardian of the garden. He is tired of taking care of the garden and decides to be naughty. He proposes the siblings an adventure. The siblings have to knock several doors and solve some riddles. If they do not solve them the Halloween characters will be trapped in those doors until the next Halloween night. Jack has trapped four Halloween characters. If the children solve the riddles the curse on Jack the scarecrow will disappear and the Halloween characters will never again be trapped.

Scene 2

The scene is set in the dining room and hall. The children discover the first door, where they find several witches. They will discover the object that is behind the riddle that will free the witches.

Scene 3

The scene is set in the bedroom and kitchen. The children discover the second door, where they find different monsters. They will discover the object that is behind the riddle that will free them.

Scene 4

The scene is set in the bathroom and living room. The children discover the third door, where they find a wizard and some of his friends. They will discover the object that is behind the riddle that will free them.

Scene 5

The scene is set in the garage and garden. The children discover the fourth door, where they find a group of skeletons. They will discover the object that is behind the riddle that will free them.

Scene 6

The scene is set in the garden. The children have found the riddle that will free the house for being haunted and Jack and the object that will make Jack the scarecrow disappear forever.
In this last scene they will discover what scares Jack and he will let the children enjoy every Halloween party without trapping any Halloween character.

Scene 7


The children are taking care of the garden and decorating it as a real Halloween scenario.
